Yiruma – White Shadow Piano Sheet Music

Yiruma is a South Korean composer, famous for his piano pieces. Yiruma started learning to play the piano at age 6 and began composing two years later. His interest in popular music came from listening to The Beatles when he was six years old. Yiruma’s style is classical influenced by contemporary genres, such as aegyo sal (Korean sentimental ballads) and bossa nova. Yiruma’s music is often described as “ethereal”. Yiruma has said that his greatest musical influences are the Romantic composers Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Yiruma’s stage name, Yiruma, is an acronym of his given names Yoo and Ru-ma. In addition to composing solo piano works in the classical tradition Yiruma has also contributed music to various Korean films and television series such as Il Mare (2000), Hwang Jini (2002), The Legend of Seven Cutter (2003) and YMCA Baseball Team (2004). Yiruma’s fourth album, First Love (2003), sold more than 200,000 copies. Yiruma published his autobiography on 19 March 2006 and held special concerts in South Korea and Japan to celebrate the release. Yiruma is a prolific composer of film scores; Yuna Tang’s documentary Yiruma – Yiruma’s Score (2006) chronicles Yiruma and Yuna Tang’s trip to Russia in early 2005 to compose music for the film They Are One. When Yiruma visited Moscow, he stayed at Yevgeny Mravinsky’s apartment where Sergei Rachmaninoff composed his Symphony No. 1. Yiruma’s most famous work is “First Love”, which has sold more than 600,000 copies since Yiruma composed it in 1999. Yiruma performed the song at Yuna Tang and Yoo Young-jin’s wedding in 2005. Yiruma holds a master’s degree from King’s College London and was an International Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in New York City during 2004. Yiruma holds citizenship of South Korea and Russia (naturalized). Yiruma has said that he would like to live in Yekaterinburg, Yekaterinburg Oblast, Russia or London, England when he retires from the music business.
