Advance Wars 2 (Japanese: アドバンスウォーズ2 Hepburn: Adobansu Wōzu 2) is a turn-based strategy video game and the sequel to Advance Wars, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising is a Nintendo Game Boy Advance video game. It was developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo in North America on June 17, 2003 in Japan and November 4, 2003 in Europe. Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising received positive reviews from critics upon its release. Advance Wars 2’s storyline revolves around two warring factions, the player-led Allied Nations and the antagonist Black Hole Army. The player takes control of a character named Andy who becomes commander of the Allied forces as a result of the death of his father, who was killed by Sturm, a member of the Black Hole army. Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising is set on a group of fictional islands known as the Kingdom of Orange Star, a region under control by the Allied Nations. There are four commanding officers in the game for each nation whose predetermined personality affects how they react to certain events during gameplay. Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising maintains Advance Wars’ signature gameplay elements that made it successful years earlier, while introducing several new features and game modes. Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising received mostly positive reviews from critics, who felt that the sequel addressed issues found in Advance Wars while still offering new features and improvements. Advance Wars 2 has been called one of the best turn-based strategy games on the Game Boy Advance system by several video game website outlets. Advance Wars 2 was later released on the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan on April 3, 2014 and Europe on September 24, 2014. Advance Wars 2 is also scheduled to be released for the Nintendo 3DS via its Virtual Console service at a future date. Advance Wars: Dual Strike, was released in August 2006 for the Nintendo DS.
