Willie Nelson (born Willie Hugh Nelson on April 30, 1933 in Abbott, Texas) is an American country singer-songwriter, author and poet. Willie was born with a twin sister to Willie Mae and Myrle Wilson, however Willie’s twin sister died shortly after birth due to medical malpractice. Willie was later raised by his parents working at their farm. Willie graduated from Abbott High School in 1951, later moving to Arlington where he worked odd jobs while pursuing a music career. Willie married Martha Matthews in 1956 and they had three children together- Billy, Lana and Susie. Willie began his music career writing songs that were recorded by well known Country Music artists such as Faron Young, Patsy Cline, and Billy Walker. Willie released his first album “And Then I Wrote” in 1962, beginning a successful music career as a singer-songwriter. Willie has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and is considered an icon for bringing country music to musical theater. Willie has sold over 40 million records worldwide and was even mentioned in the hit show “The Simpsons”. Willie is an avid supporter of Farm Aid and also founded Willie Nelson Biodiesel which manufactures biodiesel fuel from vegetable oil. Willie continues to be musically active well into his 70s, releasing albums such as “Heroes” (2007) and “Let’s Face The Music And Dance” (2013). Willie is also a well known activist, being arrested in 1987 for planting hemp seeds in Kentucky and going to court in defense of marijuana in Texas – Willie Nelson Biodiesel
