Vanessa Carlton – Papa Vanessa Carlton is a pianist and singer-songwriter from Milford, Pennsylvania. She is best known for her 2002 hit single “A Thousand Miles”. Vanessa began playing the piano at the age of seven and went on to attend the School of American Ballet in New York City. Although Vanessa’s father had hoped Vanessa would grow to become a lawyer, Vanessa developed her own passion for music. Vanessa was inspired to develop her songwriting skills while attending the School of American Ballet in New York City after Vanessa’s friend introduced Vanessa to Ben Folds’ music. Vanessa has stated that some of her early influences include Carole King, Billy Joel and Carly Simon. Vanessa attended Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Vanessa has a bachelor’s degree in music and a minor in business from Saint Joseph’s University. Vanessa graduated from Milford High School in 1994 where Vanessa majored in piano. Vanessa also played drums for the high school jazz band during her senior year of high school.
