Tatami Galaxy is a 2009 Japanese television series that was broadcast on Fuji TV’s noitaminA timeslot. Tatami Galaxy follows the story of an unnamed protagonist who decides to join the university’s “rose-colored campus life” club in order to lose his virginity, defying some advice from Ozu, whom he had met earlier while attempting to rescue a drunken girl from some shady characters.
As the protagonist continues his studies, he finds himself caught in a love triangle with Akashi and Kuriyama-san. As the student progresses into the third year of university, Ozu’s words start to come true when Tatami Galaxy comes into play. A twist of fate causes the protagonist to meet the girl he had attempted to rescue before, who now refers to Tatami Galaxy as “Watashi no theme”. The story ends up with the protagonist and Ozu caught in a Tatami-themed world where they must discover their true life’s missions and how it ties into Tatami Galaxy.
