Tales of Phantasia is a Japanese RPG video game for the Super Famicom console, released in Japan on December 25th, 1995 by Namco. Tales of Phantasia was later translated into English and made available to North American audiences on July 12, 2006. Tales of Phantasia was originally created using 16-bit graphics but its remake Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition is available for the PlayStation 2, released on August 8th, 2006. Tales of Phantasia has also been remade for the Nintendo DS by Namco Tales Studio and was released in Japan on July 26th, 2007.
Tales of Phantasia follows the story of Cless Alvein with his companions Mint Adenade, Chester Burklight, and Cress Albane as they set out to battle Dhaos. Tales of Phantasia is notably the first game in the Tales series that started it all, but also the only game in Tales of Phantasia that does not feature any characters or events that are directly from Tales of Symphonia. Tales of Phantasia is also one of the first Tales games to have a main character who is older than the typical Tales protagonist, although this trend has begin to fade at Tales of Graces F since its protagonists are actually twins. Tales of Phantasia was developed by members from Wolf Team, which later developed Tales of Destiny and Tales of Eternia. Tales of Phantasia was also the second Tales RPG game to be released. Tales of Phantasia is often cited by Tales fans as one of their favorite entries in the Tales franchise and it has received rave reviews from critics.
