Psalms 32 begins by explaining how blessed the Psalmist is, but quickly points out that he didn’t get to this place of blessing himself. Psalm 32:1-2 reads, “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the one against whom the Lord will never count sin.” Psalm 32 goes on to describe the Psalmist’s own fight for holiness that led him to Psalm 32:3-5, “When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.” Psalm 32:6-7 then states, “Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’ – and you forgave the guilt of my sin.” Psalm 32 ends with a reminder that this Psalmist received forgiveness through confession. Psalm 32:8 reads, “Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach them.” Psalms 32 encourages readers to humbly confess their faults and faults so that they can receive God’s forgiveness.
