Psalm 84 has often been called “The Psalm of Fellowship with God.” Psalm 84 is a song of praise to the Lord. David’s eyes are constantly looking up towards God for His help, mercy and guidance. Psalms 84 beautifully depicts the beauty of worshiping God in fellowship!
David wrote Psalm 84 during his time as King of Israel. Psalm 84 is often thought to have been written during the time of Ahab and Jezebel, when many godly people were being hunted down by false prophets. Psalm 84 alludes to this persecution with the first lines “How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul longs, yes even faints, for the courts of the Lord…” Psalm 84:1-2. Psalms 84 also looks forward to a future day when God will return and restore Jerusalem, with “goodwill and compassion” Psalm 85:9; Psalm 85:10.
The Psalm begins by comparing how pleasant it is when we dwell in God’s home with Psalm 84:1-2. Psalm 84:3-4 speaks of what our souls desire most is to be in the presence of God, and Psalm 84:5 explains that this makes us joyful.
