Psalm 106 – Praise the Lord, Praise Our Mighty God Piano Sheet Music

Psalm 106 is Psalm 105’s concluding Psalm. Psalm 105 records God’s mighty acts on behalf of Israel during the Exodus and Psalm 106 records the response of the Israelites to these events.

The Psalter attributed it to Ethan, Solomon’s father, who was said to be a man of Tyre who returned from exile with the Israelite King Jehoiachin ( Psalm 89:1). Psalm 106:1 records the anger of God at their rebellion. Psalm 106:47-48 records how God stirred up adversaries against them and forced them to wander in the wilderness forty years until the generation who had refused entry into the Promised Land under Joshua had all died. Psalm 106:38 records how the Israelites were ungrateful to God and tried to placate Egypt’s idols Baal and Asherah instead of only Yahweh, even though it was Yahweh who rescued them from Egypt. Psalm 106:32-33 records that they spoke against God and blasphemed his name, which Psalm 106:24 says was written into the book of remembrance. Psalm 106:11-12 records that they made a golden calf of molten gold while Moses was up on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments from God. Psalm 106:35-38 records their complicity with Korah in his rebellion against Moses, which is recorded in the Psalm, Psalm 106:17 says that they were punished by God even though it was Aaron who made the Golden Calf. Psalm 106:7-8 records their presumption in entering into God’s rest, while Psalm 106:13 records how they were not able to enter because of unbelief. Psalm 106:45 records how their children were also punished. Psalm 106:24-26 records how God’s wrath was kindled against them again and they were struck down in the wilderness by fiery serpents.
