The Pokemon series consists of a variety of video games released by Nintendo as well as various television series, films and other merchandise. It stems from the 1989 game called Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green for the Game Boy, which was released in Japan only. In Pokemon, players are “trainers” who capture Pokemon (short for Pocket Monsters) – monsters that can be caught or hatched from Pokemon eggs. They raise them to battle other Pokemon, such as those belonging to other trainers. The Pokemon Company International is a subsidiary of Pokemon USA Inc., which is also the Pokemon parent company. Pokemon is a brand that stands for much more than just Pokemon video games, toys and animated TV series currently airing in over 70 international territories.
