The games were released in Japan on September 18, 2010, October 7, 2010 in North America and October 12, 2010 in Europe. Pokémon Black and Pokémon White is set within the Unova region—based on New York City—which has been redesigned with more advanced features such as fully 3D gameplay, with Pokémon Black and Pokémon White starting off with the player having just moved to the town Aspertia City from the starting location of Nuvema Town.
