Pikmin 2: Wistful Wild is the second Pikmin game and was released in 2004 for the Nintendo Gamecube. This recording is of the end credits version rather than the original Pikmin 2 soundtrack, but both versions are available on this site.
This piece has a very melancholic feel to it, so I decided to match that by using a very sad sounding piano sound. I have been able to hold the sustain on most notes because Pikmin 2 – Wistful Wild is played in a time signature of 5/4, so if you wanted to add more emotion with dynamics, try having the loudest part somewhere near the middle where almost all of the measure is being used.
In Pikmin 2 – Wistful Wild, the piano is playing chords consisting of a root note and a minor third. In this case I have added some reverb to make the sound less bright and more sad, but it also sounds good without any effects or with other effects such as flanger or tremolo.
The left hand of Pikmin 2 – Wistful Wild consists of a low bass note and some upper harmonies. I have chosen to play this on my keyboard with one hand, but you can also use two hands if your playing position is such that both hands are able to reach the lower octave C key (C1).
The Pikmin 2 – Wistful Wild main theme is repeated several times during the piece. Once at the beginning for 8 bars, then after 32 bars it’s repeated again but with an arpeggiated pattern using mostly thirds played in the left hand.
