Lush Life Nat King Cole
Nat King Cole displays an innovative style of jazz piano in the album Nat King Cole Trio. Nat, accompanied by Oscar Moore on guitar and Johnny Miller on double bass manages to infuse a new level of sophistication into the sound of trio during the mid nineteen forties. The Nat King Cole Trio albums are considered Nat King Cole’s finest recordings. Nat borrows from several sources for his songs including Kurt Weill, Jimmy Durante, John Latouche and Billy Strayhorn. Nat includes Lush Life on the Nat King Cole Trio album which is a cover of Billy Strayhorn’s original composition. Nat had at first refused to record Lush Life but Nat’s wife at the time, Maria Hawkins Ellington convinced Nat to record the song.
