Mario Kart 64 is an Mario racing game developed by Nintendo for the N64 gaming console. Mario Kart, as it has become known as simply, was Mario’s first full venture into 3D racing. Players of Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64 were introduced to characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong , Wario and Bowser who would race around various themed tracks with Mario Kart’s trademark “rubber band” AI – which would give the leading racer(s) a small advantage, but not much.
Each Mario Kart 64 course has three laps to complete and typically contains Mario series enemies that Mario must avoid or attack. Mario Kart 64 set many of the standards for courses in Mario Kart games today. Mario Kart 64 is highly acclaimed by Mario Kart fans, and Mario Kart 64 remains one of the most popular Mario-themed racing games ever created. Mario Kart 64 has been re-released for Wii’s Virtual Console service in 2007 and 2009, respectively, so Mario enthusiasts can own a piece of Mario history.
