We Belong Together is a Mariah Carey song from her 2005 album The Emancipation of Mimi. Mariah co-wrote the song with Jermaine Dupri and Manuel Seal en Espa�ol, and produced it with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. It was released as the album’s second single on August 23, 2005. Mariah worked with a team of writers to write and polish off this song. Mariah told MTV News that the song was inspired by �I think what was going on in my life� Mariah divorced husband Nick Cannon one month prior to this song’s release and during the time Mariah became closer with Mariah friend-boyfriend Randy Jackson.

The We Belong Together single was the best perform Mariah Carey song during 2005 in the US and also set a record for Mariah as she made history by making her debut on Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1 and staying there for fourteen consecutive weeks, becoming Mariah’s longest stay on top of the Hot 100. Mariah made history again by making We Belong Together her longest-reigning single and also earned Mariah a nomination for Record of the Year at the 48th Grammy Awards in 2006, but lost to Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You”. Mariah Carey’s official music video was directed by Joseph Kahn. Mariah Carey performed We Belong Together in a medley with her previous single, Shake It Off at the 48th Grammy Awards. Mariah also made the song that she sang during her The Adventures of Mariah Carey tour as well as Mariah’s ill-fated Charmbracelet World Tour. Mariah later had to cut off on Mariah’s Glitter Promotional Tour to Mariah undergo surgery on Mariah vocal chord due to Mariah strain injury.

There was a remix of the song which featured T-Pain and Twista that Mariah made for Mariah Emancipation of Mimi Tour, but it did not make the original album version. There is also a Mariah Carey and Yung Joc version called We Belong Together. Mariah also made a remix of Mariah’s song “Fly Like A Bird” with Mariah friend-boyfriend Randy Jackson which Mariah performed alongside Mariah’s former bandmates from Wild Orchid.
