Madonna – Ray of Light Piano Sheet Music
Madonna’s eighth studio album “Ray of Light” was released in March 1998. It was her first album since 1984 to debut at number one in the Billboard Charts. Madonna also won Best Pop Female Performance at the Grammy Awards for this album, which was Madonna’s first ever Grammy Award win. Madonna co-wrote and co-produced all songs of this album. Madonna has revealed that ‘Ray Of Light’ was about “motherhood” and was a tribute to her daughter Lourdes, who was five years old at the time Madonna began working on the album. Madonna’s personal issues were also another inspiration for Madonna’s writing this album. Madonna wrote this album at a time when she was experiencing personal changes in her life, Madonna’s marriage with actor Sean Penn had ended and Madonna later got involved with British filmmaker Guy Ritchie. Madonna has said that this album “is really about me being grateful to have been given another chance at life”. Madonna has been quoted of saying about the song ‘Ray Of Light’: “This is about a person who finds out that life and people aren’t as bad as she thought; by the end of it she’s saying, ‘Lighten up’.” Madonna wrote this song for Tetsuya Komuro, Japanese music producer and Madonna’s collaborator. Madonna revealed in Madonna: An Intimate Biography (1999) by J. Randy Taraborrelli that Madonna had written this song for her first child Lourdes, but decided to use it on the album instead. Madonna has said about ‘Ray of Light’: “It is about a spiritual experience I had and awakening to the beauty of life – getting back in touch with that childlike feeling you have, of getting in touch with your own personal energy and captivating beauty of the world that you start seeing as soon as you quieten down.” Madonna has been quoted saying about ‘Ray Of Light’: “I first heard it as a house track by a techno group from England, Spooky. I bought it and didn’t like it at first, but then it grew on me. I wanted to keep the production very raw, so I added only keyboards and a basic Madonna drum track.” Madonna said about ‘Frozen’: “I had the idea for this song when my son was listening to music in his room one day, and I could hear it through the walls. It reminded me of how he shut me out at times, so this was my effort to break down the door. It’s good for parents to remember what it feels like to be a child – Madonna has been quoted saying.”
