Kirby’s Epic Yarn is a 2010 platforming Kirby video game developed by Good-Feel and HAL Laboratory for the Wii. Kirby’s Epic Yarn is notable for its relative linearity, as opposed to other Kirby video games such as Kirby: Canvas Curse or Kirby Super Star where Kirby has limited control over his movement.
Kirby’s Epic Yarn was released on October 17, 2010 in North America. Kirby’s Epic Yarn is the first Kirby video game to be available for download from the Wii Shopping Channel.
Flower Fields is a level in Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn (for the Nintendo 3DS) that takes place during the Kirby’s Dream Land 3 Kirby’s Epic Yarn intro. Kirby initially arrives in an overgrown castle garden where he finds a small green Waddle Dee who, having just woken up, does not remember anything beyond his name (which Kirby seems to magically know). This discrepancy makes him suspicious and he runs away only to return soon after with King Dedede, who Kirby and the Waddle Dee then battle. Kirby seems to win but Dedede’s remote control allows him to summon his vehicle and chase Kirby and the newly-named Bandana Waddle Dee off into Grass Land (the setting of Kirby’s Dream Land 3). Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee make it through Grass Land, reach Ripple Field, find Dedede’s castle in the clouds again, and are chased by Kirby’s nemesis. Kirby manages to beat Dedede but Kirby’s arch-enemy Meta Knight (the unseen driver of the Halberd) appears and takes both Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee. Kirby wakes up to find himself attached to a rocket that Meta Knight piloted. Kirby eventually manages to detach himself from the rocket and he falls down to what appears to be Yin-Yarn’s lair. Kirby gets tangled up in the yarn which pulls him back up through another portal where Kirby finds himself on what appears to be moving clouds, but is actually a conveyor belt. Kirby ends up in an area where Kirby can move around freely, but is taunted by both Yin-Yarn and Meta Knight. Kirby manages to defeat Meta Knight and he regains his mobility as Kirby walks on some yarn that appears to be a hand. Kirby crawls through more of the level until he enters the boss room where Kirby fights against Queen Sectonia. Kirby manages to defeat Queen Sectonia, but she gets back up and transforms into a spider-like form. Kirby defeats her again only for Kirby’s rival, King Dedede, to come out of another portal with Meta Knight as Kirby watches the two villains escape from the Dreamstalk. Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee (who have been chasing Kirby the whole time) then find themselves back in the overgrown castle garden of Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee enter a door where Kirby finds a mysterious chest. Kirby opens the chest only to reveal his pink/red yarny body from Kirby’s Dream Land 2.
