Kirby Air Ride was Kirby’s first appearance on the Nintendo GameCube. Kirby Air Ride is a racing game published by Nintendo. Kirby Air Ride has three different modes, an adventure mode in which Kirby races around on various vehicles to earn power-ups to use against his opponent, Top Ride where Kirby can freely explore the city in search of power-ups and Air Ride, Kirby’s racing mode.
Kirby Air Ride has variations on the traditional Kirby platforming style of gameplay along with some airplane action as Kirby can now take to the skies. Kirby also now gains health by eating food lying around rather than by inhaling enemies and absorbing their powers. Kirby is hungry and must eat the food lying around to remain healthy. Kirby can also perform quick dodge moves and charge up his attack power when Kirby has a weapon in hand.
Kirby Air Ride is a racing game, Kirby must race against the computer or against friends to win. The tracks in Kirby Air ride have an auto-scroll feature which means that the track scrolls forward on its own so Kirby will never be running against his rivals in Kirby Air Ride. Kirby must also collect power-ups along the track to increase Kirby’s health bar and charge up Kirby’s attack. Kirby can race around on motorcycles, flying machines or even Warpstars. Like previous Kirby games, Kirby can gain special abilities by eating specific enemies multiple times Kirby Air Ride. Kirby also gains special abilities by eating bubbles that are floating around Kirby Air Ride. Kirby can then use these abilities to attack his opponents or races against the clock in Kirby Air Ride.
