Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is a platforming video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 console. It was first released in Japan on June 30, 2000 and was later released in North America on May 24, 2001. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is a Kirby platformer like all of its predecessors, but also features 3D gameplay elements that allow Kirby to combine Copy Abilities for the first time. Kirby 64 follows Kirby as he sets out across five worlds to collect all of the Crystal Shards, which have been scattered after a confrontation with Kirby’s nemesis, King Dedede. Kirby must travel across five areas to collect each shard and save Ripple Star from destruction by defeating Zero-Two, an alien creature that had destroyed the planet. Kirby 64 is also unique for its feature of 3D gameplay mechanics, which were used to create puzzles and Kirby’s moveset.
