Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is an action role-playing game developed by Jupiter and published by Square Enix in 2004 for the PlayStation 2. It is a direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts, which is part of the Kingdom Hearts series. A playable demo was featured at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The game is split up into several chapters, each ending with a boss. It is the first Kingdom Hearts title to feature Sleights, which require two or more Cards of the same type. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories also implements an original system called “room synthesis”, where Room Points acquired by clearing rooms on each floor lead to the creation of private rooms, and then Card Draws that reward items, Cards, and enemy Heartless. This mechanic replaces the usual battle sequences found in most Kingdom Hearts games, which makes it more of a spin-off than a true sequel.
