Kelly Clarkson – Miss Independent Kelly Clarkson’s debut single “A Moment Like This” skyrocketed to the top of the charts and stayed there for four weeks. Upon winning her first American Idol Kelly was a teenager with talent, ambition, but seemingly unable to make good on her promise as an artist. Since that time Kelly has released 3 albums which have sold an astonishing 30 million copies world wide. Kelly Clarkson has become a household name and is one of the most popular pop artists in the world. Kelly Clarkson’s first album Thankful was released October 2002. Kelly, like all great musicians, did not want to wait for record companies to come to her with deals or songs she might not like so Kelly decided to write her own songs. Kelly Clarkson wrote the song “Miss Independent” and described it as a story about a woman who is “completely capable of taking care of herself, usually financially independent.” Kelly already had a record contract with RCA records but Kelly knew this would probably not be the final version released to radio stations or the first single from Kelly Clarkson’s debut album.
