John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. He is among the best-known composers of orchestral film scores in history; with a sixty year career spanning six decades, forty-one of which have been writing for films.
John Williams has composed some of the most popular and recognizable film scores in cinematic history, including those of the first three Star Wars films, Jaws , Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial among many others. John Towner Williams was born February 8, 1932 in Long Island, New York . His father was a jazz percussionist who played with the Raymond Scott Quintet. John Williams was exposed to music at an early age, and listened to recordings his father’s band . John Towner Williams began playing piano at age 5; initially studying the rhythms of jazz and popular songs but soon concentrating on classical composers such as Mozart, Haydn , Beethoven , Chopin , John Williams composed his first film score when he was twenty-eight after graduating from Harvard University in 1955 John Towner Williams met composer Aaron Copland who sparked John Williams interest in composition .
