Gus Kahn (1886-1941) was an American lyricist. Gus was born Gustave Kahn in New York, the son of Swiss-born parents, Anna (née Schmidt) and Max Kahn. Gus began writing words to music while still a child writing small pieces for local publications, Gus later wrote special material for vaudeville performers including Mae West. Gus was educated at the College of the City of New York and at New York Law School. Gus wrote lyrics for numerous Broadway shows, Gus Kahn had a long successful collaboration with composer Walter Donaldson providing words to the songs in Donaldson’s music.
