Grieg composed Grieg – 25 Norwegian Folk Songs and Dances, Op.17 in 1858 as a gift to Nina Hagerup, later Grieg’s wife. Grieg wrote the work for piano solo, without accompaniment. Grieg orchestrated the pieces in 1929 for this work to be played by a full orchestra.
