The Grade Two Italian Song by French composer Charles Gounod is the first song in Grade Two of the Associated Board’s Grade 2 syllabus. Like many children’s songs, this piano piece uses a simple ABA’ form with three themes that are repeated to help students understand how music works.
The main theme presents itself as an arpeggio in single notes, which makes for an easy introduction to Grade 2 piano pieces.
The short middle section introduces the B theme, presenting it in both treble and bass clefs simultaneously.
As usual when playing Grade Two piano pieces (and Grade One), students should make sure to play every note with clarity, keeping fingers close together at all times. Playing Grade Two piano pieces is a great way to begin learning Grade 2 sheet music.
