Grade 1 – Ah! Vous Dirais-Je-Maman Piano Sheet Music

Ah! Vous Dirais-Je, Maman  (French for “Oh, Would I Might Tell You, Mother”), also known as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star , is a French melody.

This song has flourishes of notes that are difficult to play on the keyboard or piano, so it’s an ideal piece   for Grade 1 students.

Although this song is written for Grade One students, it can be a fun piece to play, even for Grade Two kids who have the skills required to perform it properly. After all, practise makes perfect!

This Grade 1 song is also a good choice for beginning pianists that are playing by ear and want to get a feel for playing from sheet music.

One of the best things about this Grade 1 song is that it’s been known to help kids improve their hand-eye coordination. The extra notes, or flourishes, make it a good choice for children who want to learn how to play piano and want to get a head start on learning to read music.

This Grade 1 song is great for teaching basics such as note reading, musical key signatures and hand position because it’s repetitive and there are only a few patterns that need to be repeated before moving onto the next section of the song.

Another perk about this Grade One song is that there aren’t any sharps or flats until the very last measure.

The musical key signature of Grade One songs is C major, which is a good reason why this Grade 1 song is a great place to start when learning how to play the piano. In fact, it’s best not to introduce kids to songs with lots of flats and sharps until they’re Grade 3 students because younger children tend to get overwhelmed by all of these technicalities.

The ending is pretty much the same as the beginning, so this Grade 1 song is probably best performed when there’s someone else in the room to watch out for any mistakes.

Ah! Vous Dirais-Je, Maman  was composed by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the lyrics are in French. Despite this, the song became popular in 18th century England under the name Twinkle Twinkle Little Star .

Today, just about everybody knows this Grade 1 song, even if they don’t realize it! This Grade One song has been featured in movies such as Monster House and Maleficent , along with countless television shows.
