The Fire Emblem Series is a role-playing video game series developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is the sixteenth entry of the Fire Emblem series, it was released in May 2017 for Japan. Additionally, Fire Emblem Heroes , a free-to-play spinoff mobile app was released in February 2017. Fire Emblem Echoes is a Fire Emblem game for handheld systems. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia features two modes in the Fire Emblem series, each with their own music—the exploration mode and battle mode.

Shadows of Valentia was re-released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2018 in the form of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia – Complete Edition. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia – Complete Edition features both the Fire Emblem Gaiden and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia storylines, as well as a third storyline which features Alm and Celica’s past adventures together.

Fire Emblem echoes not only features two protagonists in two separate storylines, but it also features two different battle modes—exploration mode and battle mode. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is Fire Emblem Echoes’ battle mode, where it follows the Fire Emblem tradition of turn-based strategy. Fire Emblem Echoes features two game modes—exploration and battle. Battle Mode has more in common with Fire Emblem’s traditional combat styled games, Fire Emblem Gaiden .
