Faure was born into a French family that originally had Italian roots in Avignon . He started his musical education at an early age studying piano and improvisation with his father Nicolas Faure (The Great Pretender). Faure studied the piano at Conservatoire de Paris in the years of 1857-59. Faure’s early work was largely ignored by the musical community after his death. Faure is considered to be a pivotal figure in Late Romanticism and Impressionism . Faure is well known for his “Piano Quintet” in A minor, Op.14 , which many consider to be a masterpiece. Faure is also widely considered to be one of the best piano composers of his period , alongside Faubourg and Albéniz . Faure was married on 8 January 1883, in Jersey , but had no children. Faure’s wife outlived him by many years, finally passing away in October 1940.
