“My Immortal” is Evanescence’s best-selling single to date, peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 (US) (despite no video or radio airplay), and certified platinum in the United States. The song has also topped the charts in Belgium (Flanders) and Poland.
It peaked in the top three in both Australia and the United Kingdom.
The song was Evanescence’s highest-charting hit until the release of their single “What You Want” in October 2007, which peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
My Immortal lyrics Evanescence:
“Tears stream down your face When you lose something you can’t replace. Tears stream down on your face, And I — I promise you I will learn from my mistakes.
I can’t be everything to everyone To save a life And every time you walk away I get weaker and I need you now Yeah, there are things That I would have said But you push me aside And all that’s left Are the memories Of a perfect love That I once had in my hands.”
“I’m so tired of being here Suppressed by all my childish fears And if you have to leave I wish that you would just leave ‘Cause your presence still lingers here [In my room where you sleep] And it won’t leave me alone [These wounds won’t seem to heal] This pain is just too real [There’s just too much.] There’s just too much.
“When you cried I’d wipe away all of your tears When you’d scream I’d fight away all of your fears And I’ve held your hand through all of these years But you still have All of me You used to captivate me By your resonating light Now I’m bound by the life you left behind Your face it haunts My once pleasant dreams Your voice it chased away All the sanity in me.”
