Etta James – At Last Piano Sheet Music

Etta James – At Last Piano Sheet Music

Etta James’ story begins in 1938, when her father began teaching Etta to play piano. Etta’s father came from a large and very musical family (he was one of 15) and Etta inherited his enthusiasm for creating music. Etta started playing by ear; she would hear something once and be able to play it. Etta began singing with her four sisters as a gospel group called The James Sisters, Etta being the youngest. Etta’s mother was also musical, playing piano by ear after she was blinded in an accident at work. Etta sang lead for most of her life because by the time she reached high school, she had a powerful voice. Etta’s first public performance was in church when she was 4 years old.

In the early 1950s, Etta James moved to Los Angeles and teamed up with Johnny Otis, who became her manager and mentor. Etta recorded her first single, “Roll With Me Henry” in 1955. The blues song became Etta’s first hit record. Etta recorded more blues songs through the 1950s, but it wasn’t until 1960 that Etta had her first big pop hit with a song called “At Last.” Etta learned to read music and, by the 1960s, she was writing most of her own material. Etta won a Grammy Award for “At Last” in 1962 and continued to have hit records throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Etta also toured extensively during this time, playing concerts all over the world.
