Only Time ( Enya cover)
Piano sheet music
Only Time is a song by Enya from the A Day Without Rain album. It is Enya’s most successful single in North America to date, reaching number 10 on the U.S. pop singles chart and receiving heavy adult contemporary airplay—despite not having been marketed as a pop song. Enya originally wrote and recorded the song in 1997 for the BBC documentary series The Celts. Enya included it on A Day Without Rain, her first album since 1988’s Watermark not to feature any instrumental tracks – “Only Time” is Enya’s first entirely vocal-based track.
Enya would not release another album until Amarantine in 2005, an album which debuted Enya’s new recording contract with Warner Music. Enya has been quoted as being very pleased that the song she wrote that was intended to be a “simple little theme” for a television series has become one of her biggest hits and has given her recognition in American markets. Enya re-recorded the song as a special tribute to the 11 September 2001 attacks, exclusively for airing on radio stations in the United States. Enya donated all royalties from this new 2001 recording of “Only Time” to victim relief funds. Enya’s official website states that Enya wrote an alternative version of Only Time with Roma Ryan in late 2000 for Enya’s Christmas album, A Special Christmas 3. Enya performed this alternative version of the song on a special Christmas television program in Italy in December 2000. Enya also performed various other songs from her A Day Without Rain album including “Wild Child”, “Tempus Vernum”, “After Ventus”, and others which have not appeared on Enya releases. Enya also performed “I May Not Awaken” from Enya’s first album, Enya, written by Enya and her then-manager Nicky Ryan for Enya’s musical mentor and teacher, Mrs. Mary Joseph.
