In the Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong’s banana hoard is stolen by the Kremlings and Donkey Kong has to fight through all of the islands in Donkey Kong Island in order to get it back. In Gloomy Galleon’s second world (Gangplank Galleon), Donkey Kong must chase King K. Rool through Crocodile Isle’s waterways, Donkey Kong uses a mechanical fish to catch up with the king and Donkey Kong battles K. Rool, who is then dragged down by a giant anchor which Donkey Kong throws at him.
The game has been ported to the iQue Player in China and as part of Donkey Kong 64: Original Soundtrack Edition for the Nintendo GameCube. Donkey Kong 64 is the first Donkey Kong game in which Donkey Kong uses a weapon. In Donkey Kong 64, Donkey Kong can use small melee weapons such as throwing oranges and boxing gloves as well as large two-handed weapons such a giant hammer. Donkey Kong carries all his weapons at once until he throws them; they do not lose power if Donkey Kong carries them for a long time. Donkey Kong gains more powerful temporary weapons as the player collects more bananas. Donkey Kong may not use his current weapon until he loses it by being attacked or using a specific move. Donkey Kong can only carry one large weapon at a time and cannot pick up small weapons while carrying a large one.
