Donkey Kong 64 is a 1999 Donkey Kong game that was released for the Nintendo 64. Donkey Kong 64 features many different characters, and one of those characters is Donkey Kong’s brother, known as Cranky Kong. In Donkey Kong 64 , Cranky appears in almost every level at least once to give Donkey’s nephews some information before they go off to complete Donkey Kong’s challenges. One of these pieces of information is a musical tune Cranky plays on the piano in the corner, which Donkey then dances to. This article is about that specific piece of music!
The song that Cranky Kong plays on his piano in Donkey Kong 64 , entitled “Before Boss”, appears throughout Donkey Kong games. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest introduced Donkey and Diddy into the Donkey Kong series, and “Before Boss” was one of the songs that played during the game. Since Donkey Kong Country 2 , “Before Boss” has appeared in all Donkey Kong games available to play today.
The song is split up into four parts; each part plays one after the other and for equal amounts of time. Donkey Kong 64 is no different, and Cranky tells Donkey to “hit that note” when it’s his turn to play.
The first part of the song goes like this:
Donkey! Donkey Kong! Donkey Kong is here! K-O-N-G Donkey Kong! Donkey! Donkey Kong!
