Debussy – Berceuse heroique, L.132 Piano Sheet Music Debussy’s Berceuse heroique (Op. 16) was written as an exercise for Debussy’s harmony students at the Conservatoire de Paris. Debussy wrote it between 1891 and 1892, when he was aged 24 or 25, but did not publish it until 1909. Debussy’s first biographer, Pierre Louys, recounts Debussy playing the Berceuse to him at his apartment in 1892 or 1893. It was Debussy’s only published piano composition during his lifetime. In 1907 Debussy heard a performance by Carlos Driggs and sent Driggs a handwritten copy of the score with the inscription “To Mr. Driggs, with Debussy’s compliments”.
