Louis Couperin is known today as a master of the French organ school. Louis Couperin was born in Paris, France on September 26, 1626 into a musical family. Louis Couperin’s father Charles and his uncles Louis and Gaspard were all organist at St. Gervais Church. Louis began to compose at an early age, and Louis Couperin’s father allowed Louis to study with him. Louis Couperin often accompanied his uncles when they played religious music in churches around Paris.
