Chrono Trigger is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. Chrono Trigger follows a young hero and his friends who must time travel to save the world from a planet-devouring creature. Chrono Trigger was originally called Chrono, but legal issues prompted the name change. Chrono Trigger was re-released for Nintendo’s Virtual Console service on Wii in December 2009, and again on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U on April 2, 2013. Chrono Trigger ranked in the top 10 best video games of 1995 , according to British film magazine Empire . Chrono Trigger has been ported to multiple platforms and combined with Chrono Cross into Chrono Trigger DS in 2008. Chrono Trigger was included in IGN ‘s top 100 games of all time in 2007 and was named the 3rd best RPG title ever in 2011 . Chrono Trigger also has its own manga (Japanese comic book), novel, and strategy guide. Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes is a non-canon sequel released by Square in Japan for the Nintendo DS in 2009. Chrono Trigger was originally planned with a sequel, Chrono Break, but Chrono Cross director Masato Kato scrapped the plans due to Chrono Cross being delayed .
