Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo (Konami TYO) and published by Konami for the PlayStation in Japan on September 20, 1997. The game was ported to Microsoft Windows in 1999 with some enhancements, such as improved graphics, a different soundtrack featuring new songs and the inclusion of Maria as a playable character. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was released in late 1997 in Japan for the PlayStation, then later in North America and Europe by Sony Computer Entertainment America in early 1998. The game was also re-released worldwide on the PlayStation Network in 2007. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was critically acclaimed by reviewers.
