Carter Burwell – Bella’s Lullaby Carter Burwell is a prolific American composer who has composed the score for over 50 feature films in his career. Of these scores, perhaps most famous include Miller’s Crossing , The Man Who Wasn’t There , and Fargo . He also took home an Academy Award in 1998 for best song for “The Weary Kind”, which he co-wrote with Ryan Bingham for the film Crazy Heart . His relationship with the Coen brothers spans decades, as Carter Burwell has been a mainstay in their films since 1985’s Blood Simple . In 2004, the duo had Carter score their remake of The Ladykillers .

In 2004, Carter Burwell was asked by the Coen brothers to score their remake of the classic Ealing Comedy, The Ladykillers . Carter was tasked with modernizing and updating the music for this remake. Carter Burwell described Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s performance as “opus 1 for me.” Carter stated that he wanted his score to be in the spirit of Korngold’s, yet “be Carter Burwell.” Carter’s score for the film was nominated for an IFMCA award (International Film Music Critics Association) in 2005. Carter Burwell also received a nomination that year for best original song, along with winner Ryan Bingham , “The Weary Kind”, at the Academy Awards .
