Blue Oyster Cult Blue Oyster Cult (often abbreviated BOC) is an American rock band formed on Long Island, New York in 1967. Blue Oyster Cult has sold more than 24 million records worldwide including 7 million in the United States alone. Blue Oyster Cult was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Blue Oyster Cult is well known for its songs “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”, “Godzilla” and “Burnin’ for You” and recently, “Cultosaurus Erectus” and “Black Blade”. Blue Oyster Cult’s most successful album Tyranny and Mutation (1973) featured the hit single “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” which reached #12 in the US charts and is Blue Oyster Cult’s only top 40 single. The band has a well-reported aversion to the term “heavy metal”, and prefers to be called a “rock and roll” band. Blue Oyster Cult toured from 1972 to 1992, releasing a string of albums. Blue Oyster Cult track “Don’t Fear The Reaper” from the 1976 album Blue Öyster Cult reached number 12 in the Billboard Hot 100. Blue Oyster Cult’s most successful album Tyranny and Mutation (1973) featured the hit single “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” which reached #12 in the US charts and is Blue Oyster Cult’s only top 40 single. Blue Oyster Cult tracks “Godzilla” and “Burnin’ for You” were included on the 1979 soundtrack album from the film of the same name, Blue Oyster Cult released its next studio album Fire of Unknown Origin in 1981, which was less successful than their previous albums. Blue Oyster Cult is well known for its songs “Don’t Fear The Reaper”, “Godzilla” and “Burnin’ for You” Blue Oyster Cult track “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” reached number 12 in the Billboard Hot 100. Blue Oyster Cult’s most successful album Tyranny and Mutation (1973) featured the hit single “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” Blue Oyster Cult’s 1977 album Spectres included the songs “Godzilla” and “I Love The Night”. Blue Oyster Cult released its next studio album Fire of Unknown Origin in 1981, which was less successful than their previous albums.
