Bizet was a French composer whose most prominent works were the opera Carmen and the Symphony in C. Bizet’s father was his first music teacher, Bizet studied piano as a boy under Louis Zimmermann (1821-1871) but his talent at the keyboard was scanty. He had more success as a singer! Bizet was a choirboy at the Church of Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois part of the reason Bizet had such strong connections with the French capital. Bizet said he always found playing music on the piano “awkward and laborious” but Bizet was passionate about opera and art song.
