Beethoven’s Sonatina in D major was first published as a supplement to the official Beethoven House Newspaper, edited by Beethoven himself. Beethoven had been working on an opera, however after finding out that it wasn’t ready for publishing he turned his focus to writing Sonatinas and Bagatelles instead. It was published in 1796 on Beethoven’s 26th birthday. Beethoven dedicated Sonatina to Josephine von Deym. Beethoven’s Sonatinas were written as a reflection of Mozart and are considered a link between the Classical and Romantic era.
