Diabelli Variations, op. 120 (German: Variationen über einen Walzer von Anton Diabelli), popularly known as the Diabelli Variations, is a work written for solo piano by Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven’s autograph score is titled “Variazioni su un wals di Diabelli”, variazioni being the singular form of variations. It consists of an introduction and a theme with 33 variations. Beethoven had offered the work to a number of publishers, who felt it was too long and Chopin referred to it as Beethoviana, before eventually selling it himself in 1823 for Austrian 60 ducats (the equivalent of £230 or $331).
