Yiruma’s piano music ‘Beloved’ was released in June 2002 and the album ranked #1 on Hottracks (Korean classical music chart). Yiruma started his career with this CD, which received Yiruma praises as a new pianist who charms people with his unique clear sound. Yiruma is currently an active artist who has held many concerts around the world. Yiruma’s piano music which is made him famous was ‘Beloved’. Yiruma composed mostly in minor scales, which gives a sad impression. Yiruma said, “I tried to express sorrow through my music.” Yiruma uses his experience and imagination about love as the main theme. Yiruma was born on 11th February, 1978 and graduated from Seoul Arts High School. Yiruma also studied music at Yonsei University’s Graduate School of Music. Yiruma started composing when he was a high school student because he wanted to be an artist who could express his feelings through playing piano. Yiruma tried to write melodies by combining different scales in order to create his own sound as a new pianist when he made ‘Beloved’. Yiruma had some difficulties after finishing ‘Beloved’, but it all ended up well because he received praises for the album.

Shortly after ‘Beloved’ released, Yiruma held his first concert with this piece on 19th June 2002 at Yonsei University’s Yiruma Hall. Yiruma held a total of 30 concerts with ‘Beloved’. Yiruma said, “I have never been worried about the result and I just wanted to express my original music and ideas through playing piano.”
