Aoi Hana (葵花, Aoi Hana), also known as Aoi Tori (青い鳥) or The Blue Bird, is a manga series by Chiho Saitō. The story follows Fumi Manjōme, an openly gay high school junior who befriends Akira Okudaira, a straight high school girl whom they soon nickname Aya-chan. Aoi Hana presents a story of love, loss and growth between the three main characters as their relationships change throughout the series. Aoi Hana won the 2007 Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo.[1]

The manga was adapted into a 13-episode anime television series produced by the studio ZEXCS and directed by Makoto Moriwaki. The anime aired in Japan on TV Aichi and AT-X between April and June 2009. A second season, Aoi Hana: Yume no Naka (Aoi Hana 〜夢の中), aired in Japan between October and December 2010.
