Alicia Augello Cook (born January 25, 1981), known by her stage name Alicia Keys , is an American R&B singer-songwriter, musician, record producer and actress. She was raised by a single mother in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan in New York City . She began playing classical piano at age seven; she later attended Professional Performing Arts School and graduated at 16 as valedictorian. She is the only artist to have won five Grammy Awards in one night. Alicia Keys was named the top R&B artist of 2001 by Billboard, as she released her debut album .
