10cc is an English art rock band that was formed in Stockport who achieved their greatest commercial success in the 1970s. 10cc featured two songwriting teams, one ‘commercial’ and one more ‘artistic’. Stewart and Gouldman were predominantly pop-songwriters, who created most 10cc’s accessible songs. By way of contrast, Godley and Creme were the predominantly experimental half of 10cc, featuring an Art School sensibility. Both halves apparently kept each other in check, creatively: all four members were accomplished musicians and skilled producers. 10cc is also well known for elaborate, original studio productions which featured both imaginative sound effects and state-of-the art multitrack recording techniques. 10cc was co-managed by Ric Dixon and Harvey Lisberg at Kennedy Street, who had coincidentally been the original managers of the Hollies.
